Aromasin (exemestane) 25 mg tablets are primarily used to treat hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in women who have gone through menopause. It is an anti-cancer medication that works as an aromatase inhibitor, lowering estrogen levels in the body to slow or stop the growth of cancer cells that need estrogen to grow.
Specific uses include:
Treatment of advanced breast cancer: It is used in cases where the cancer has progressed after treatment with another anti-cancer medication, typically tamoxifen.
Adjuvant treatment of early breast cancer: It is often prescribed to women with early breast cancer after they have completed 2 to 3 years of treatment with tamoxifen, to reduce the risk of the cancer returning (recurrence).
Preventing cancer recurrence: By suppressing estrogen production, Aromasin helps to prevent the spread of tumors to other parts of the body.
Aromasin is intended for use only in postmenopausal women. It is not for use in women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who have not yet gone through menopause.
